Whakamana te Waituna

The Whakamana te Waituna Trust would appreciate your feedback on suggestions for enhancing biodiversity across the Waituna catchment, and for improving the ecological diversity and water quality in Waituna Creek.

Of particular interest is pest plant and animal control to protect our native wildlife and their natural habitats. Other topics to discuss include fencing around wetlands, learning more about our threatened native lizards and boosting the numbers of native fish. Full details are available here:

You can provide your feedback in this quick survey The survey will close on Wednesday 16th October 2019.

We've also been running local workshops at the Oteramika Hall, corner of Kapuka North and Waituna Roads. The last one will be held on Friday 11th October 2019 from 10.30am – 12.00pm then lunch from 12.00pm - 1.30pm.

If you are short of time you are welcome to come just for lunch. There will be posters to read and staff from DOC and Environment Southland will be there to answer questions.

Thank you to those who attended the August and September workshops. If you would like to attend the October workshop (or just the lunch) please RSVP by emailing Chris Hankin at or phone 027 536 6805.

After the workshop we will review all the feedback and report back to the community for further comments. If you would like to receive a copy of this report, or have any other questions, please contact Chris Hankin at DOC.
